I take it that you forwarded the report and enclosures to the Government of Hong Kong, from whom further instructions are still awaited, but perhaps you would be good enough to confirm this so that I can keep my papers open.

Sir,

I have the honour to refer to your despatch No. 79 of 3rd March, 1947, on the subject of the repair of the Queen Victoria Statue, and to inform you that it is considered advisable to defer the decision on this matter until further consideration has been given to a proposal for re-planning the area in which this and other Royal statues were formerly sited. It is hoped to discuss this proposal with Sir Patrick Abercrombie when he visits the Colony in October to give expert advice on town planning.
